The store was first operated by Albert Brown back in the 1920s. It was a place to buy staples, gasoline and pick up your mail. In 1951 the current building was erected from wood sawed and planed at the sawmill across the road operated by Leroy Brown, Albert's son. By this time Leroy also ran the store, Brown's Superette as it was called then. A section of the new building was used for the Mountain Rest Post Office.
We have plans for using our place for things like pancake suppers, Italian suppers, soup suppers, taco night, open mic night snacks and more. We are interested in your suggestions. Hopefully in the future we will be making this venu available to use for catered parties and special events.
